Prayer for Persecuted Christians

A group of people from across the churches in Market Drayton meet together on a monthly basis to pray for persecuted Christians around the world. If you are motivated to support our suffering brothers and sisters you would be very welcome to join us. At each session we usually focus on one or two countries where persecution is occurring. Through videos and information accessed via the internet we try to understand more of the opportunities and difficulties encountered by members of His Church who are suffering because they identify themselves as believers in Jesus Christ.

From January 2019 we will meet on the afternoon of the third Wednesday in the month. In November we meet on the Saturday before the International Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians (normally the third Sunday of November in the UK).

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt orders a review into the plight of persecuted Christians.

In the announcement on 26 December 2018, he said he wanted to find out how much help these people receive from the UK. The review will be led by the Bishop of Truro and is planned to be completed by Easter. Hunt hopes it will help over 215 million Christians around the world who are persecuted for their faith. “So often, the persecution of Christians is a telling early warning sign of the persecution of every minority,” the Foreign Secretary said, adding that the UK “must do more”.

The same day BBC News 24 interviewed Wilson Chowdhry of the British Pakistan Christian Association, about the announcement.

Understanding Persecution

This video by International Christian Concern highlights the many forms Christian persecution can take around the world to bring greater understanding to what our Brothers and Sisters face everyday. Please watch and pray.
