The speaker at this year’s Churches Together Service on Sunday, 19 January is Roger Berrie from Morning Star Ministries. The service at Christchurch, Little Drayton starts at 6pm and will be followed by refreshments and then the Churches Together AGM.
Roger has worked for many years in India sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and providing pastoral care for Christian believers. Morning Star Ministries also meets the practical needs of local people.
Morning Star Ministries hosts a residential school for children from nearby slums across two sites. They currently have 40 residential students and a further 40 who attend their day school. The ministry also provides health care for their students and other people known to them and who would not be able to access suitable care without assistance.
Currently, Roger is unable to visit the ministry base in India because the Indian government have refused him an entry permit. This seems to be part of an increased policy by the ruling BJP party to fulfil a political commitment to make India a Hindu nation. This agenda has also seen an increase in the numbers of Christians being attacked by their neighbours trying to either force them to convert to Hinduism or to leave the country. (More information about what is happening can be found in our recent Prayer for Persecuted Christian notes from this week.
Roger will be speaking about both the work of Morning Star Ministries and the worsening situation for Christians in India.
